A Fool For April | A shop update

To start the month & the week - a shop update, no foolin'! All is in the SHOP.

Patullo-Jo Copeland

 Jo Copeland
I wrote a short bio for the Vintage Fashion Guild  a few years ago. Since posting up yet another great Patullo-Jo Copland dress, I thought it was time to talk about her work again.
Jo Copeland, although somewhat unsung today, was a well-known ready-to-wear designer who shared a label with Pattullo. Born in 1899 in New York and a graduate of the Parsons School of Design, she

Jean Varon twins

I don't find much designer vintage, just some sprinkled in now & then, but the shop is happy to see the addition of two twin Jean Varon dresses that are pretty darn great. These two will be available very soon!

Mad Men Season 6

a

Are you ready?  It's almost time for a new season of Mad Men.  The two hour premiere is April 7th.  Isn't it strange to see how much the style has already changed as we move into the late 60s?  A few thing to note:  Megan's hair is kind of crazy, Betty is skinny again, Ginsberg and Stan are still around (check out the beard on Stan) and so is Peggy, although she seems to be on her own.  Can't wait!

Sandalwitch

c

Even though it's still snowing here, I have summer on the mind.  And nothing says summer more than a pair of strappy sandals.  I'm sooo ready to get my feet out of boots!  Last summer I could never make up my mind about which pair of sandals to buy, so I never bought a pair.  Wouldn't it by nice if I could get my hands (er, feet) on a pair of these handmade sandals by Sandalwitch.   If you're in or around San Francisco you can sign up to take a class from the talented sandal-maker.  Oh, to be back in California!

A Night With Nick Cave

z

Last week Tom and I headed to the Keswick Theater to see Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds.  I put on my loudest vintage dress (the print is eerily similar to the one in the new Secret South collection) and the highest heels I own.  We don't go out very often so live it up, right?!  The show was, of course, amazing.  We saw him once before in NYC so I had an idea of what to expect.  Imagine going to a southern revival where the preacher is drunk, perverted and possessed.  In other words, it was pretty amazing!  If you have the chance to see him live, definitely check it out!

Is it Spring yet?

It's still wintry here with cold temps, and a forecast for snow. Yes, snow! The daffodils are going to be crispy frozen. The ground is mud, so that won't get any better.  So that makes it even more important to take a look at fresh greens and lightweight fabrics. Because it will get warmer. It really will. And we can strike the woolens and sweaters from our daily wardrobe at long last and get

Ode to the dress form

There's just something about the dress form that I can't seem to get enough of. If you have told me 7 years ago that I would have a collection of over 10 I never would have believed you. Before I even opened Dear Golden I loved them and purchased my first one just to have in my house. Today a new vintage dress form arrived and it inspired me to compile all the photos I have taken of these beauties and share them with you. I'm actually running out of space in the shop to keep them all so I think I am done collecting them for a little bit...we'll see about that! If you're looking for one you have to be pretty diligent; I found mine at antique stores, estate sales, Craigslist & eBay.

Orla Kiely Fall 2013

a

It hardly seems right to be posting a fall collection with the official start of spring right around the corner.  But since there's about an inch of snow falling right now, I think I'll make an exception.  Also, any collection inspired by Margot Tenenbaum is bound to catch my eye. Bouffant 60s hair?  Yes, please!

Home Crush

I'm already married, but lo if I were not I'd be shoppin' for a guy who had a house *just like* this. Somehow he makes minimalism so friendly and there is even spaces that are cozy unlike so many minimalist interiors that lack a nice curling up spot. I also love his manly garage where he works on motorcycles (hotness!). But seriously, what really takes the cake is this dude has my favorite breed of kitty cat, an uber cute Abyssinian - bedorable!
